My story with Apple computers begins here.
For a while now, I wanted to try OS X, and see what the hype was all about, I started my journey a while back. Starting with an iPhone and later apple express. Both worked amazing with my Bose speaker. I moved on to AppleTV, another AppleTV to different room, and apple Extreame router. With all of the toys, there was something missing.
The actual computer with an OSX on it.
I’m not a laptop guy, PowerBook or Air was out of the question. I went with small and cheap!
Mac Mini, basic version 2.3Ghz Intel i5, with 2 Gb of ram and 500Gb HD, wireless apple keyboard, and as they call it “magic mouse”!
Went home, hooked everything up and powered it on, the sound it made, reminded me off college, when as an IT guy I was setting up macs in the computer labs. Ahh, the memories.
“It” simply worked! used my apple ID to setup my account, configured email, iCloud, synced with my phone address book, got all my e-mails. Pretty much everything a basic user ever want was configured in first 15 minutes.
It’s been two days now, and I did not turn on my main PC yet. I’ve been using mini since. Love the idea of being able to install “irssi”, enable ssh, and be able to get to it from work. The idea of not hearing case fans when browsing internet late at night is irresistible!
Should I consider myself converted to apple? I don’t think so, It will take some time to get used to the system, learn it inside out, and discover new things. (Hey, i’m still learning windows). This can be considered a distraction from my daily windows routine, and from gaming.
Only time will tell… but deep down inside, I’m still computer gamer, and everybody knows, all new/great games are unfortunately being released on windows.
